The Highland Conference announced Friday that its board of directors has unanimously approved the membership applications of Houghton Lake and Roscommon as both schools will join the league for the 2019-20 school year.
Houghton Lake and Roscommon are founding members of the Jack Pine Conference and have each enjoyed a good deal of success in the conference. The departure leaves the Jack Pine Conference with six members.
Marion is set to depart the Highland Conference following the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year and will join the West Michigan D League for the 2018-19 academic year.
“The Highland Conference is ecstatic about having Houghton Lake and Roscommon come into our league,” Highland Conference president and McBain Northern Michigan Christian athletic director Dave Skinner said. “Both schools bring a high standard of tradition and success and we look forward to them making the Highland Conference an even stronger proponent of educational athletics.”
With Houghton Lake and Roscommon joining, the Highland Conference will become a nine-member league.
