Palestinians: EU, Russia and UN should counter US peace plan
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The Palestinian U.N. ambassador says the European Union, Russia and the United Nations should take action to save a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict if the long-awaited U.S. peace plan doesn’t lead to two independent nations.
Riyad Mansour told a group of journalists Tuesday that these key parties that back the idea of a Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel need to take practical actions that would prevent any U.S. plan that doesn’t include an independent Palestinian state from succeeding.
The U.S. plan’s contents remain secret.
Mansour said Tuesday the EU could call an international conference on the basis of the “global consensus” supporting a two-state solution “to see how we can open ways to move forward.” And he said Russia is already authorized to host a conference.
