Man accused of firing at police officer arrested in Michigan

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A man accused of shooting dozens of times at a Tennessee police officer has been arrested in Detroit.

The Tennessean reports 47-year-old Jamal Jamel Gardner was arrested Friday on charges including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated domestic assault.

Gardner is accused of shooting at the Columbia officer this month. Police released body camera video of the shooting that shows the officer hiding behind his cruiser as shots are fired in his direction.

A voice believed to belong to the officer is heard saying “He’s got me pinned,” adding that the shooter has a rifle. The shooter fled and the officer wasn’t injured.

Gardner also is accused in a domestic assault earlier that day. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
