Jury to decide life or death for bank robber who killed 2
FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — The same jury that found a man guilty of killing two employees during a South Carolina bank robbery will now decide whether he’s to receive the death sentence.
A federal jury in Florence found Brandon Council guilty Tuesday of armed bank robbery resulting in death, among other charges. News outlets report jurors almost immediately afterward began hearing evidence about whether he gets life in prison or the death penalty for shooting the manager and a teller at CresCom Bank in Conway in August 2017.
Authorities say the Wilson, North Carolina man took $15,000 in the robbery.
Prosecutors argued Council should get the death penalty, saying he took innocent lives while seeking easy money. Council’s lawyers didn’t dispute his guilt, but say the defendant is remorseful and has cooperated with investigators.
