Herman Miller: Fiscal Q1 Earnings Snapshot

ZEELAND, Mich. (AP) _ Herman Miller Inc. (MLHR) on Wednesday reported a fiscal first-quarter loss of $61.5 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Zeeland, Michigan-based company said it had a loss of 93 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions and amortization costs, came to 49 cents per share.

The furniture maker posted revenue of $789.7 million in the period.

For the current quarter ending in December, Herman Miller expects its per-share earnings to range from 55 cents to 61 cents.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $1.02 billion to $1.07 billion for the fiscal second quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $652.5 million.

Herman Miller shares have increased 18% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $39.98, a rise of 31% in the last 12 months.
