TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Alex Killorn had a goal and an assist, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-1 for their third consecutive win. Victor Hedman, Ryan McDonagh, Anthony Cirelli and Brayden Point also scored for Tampa Bay, which remained unbeaten in five home games this season. Anthony Mantha scored for Detroit, which dropped their seventh straight game, including two overtime losses. 

UNDATED (AP) — Maryland football coach Mike Locksley put together another strong recruiting class. The Terrapins signed four four-star prospects in December and completed their class with five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis of Opa Locka, Florida. Lewis is the No. 20 player in the country in the 247Sports rankings. The top eight recruits play defense. That’s an area where Locksley is looking for rapid improvement. Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo said this is the class Locksley needs to boost his defense.

UNDATED (AP) — The game of the weekend in the Big Ten pits No. 19 Wisconsin against No. 12 Illinois in Champaign on Saturday.  The game matches the conference’s No. 2 offense in Illinois against the No. 1 defense. Michigan State heads into the weekend with waning hopes of making the NCAA Tournament for the 23rd straight year. Tom Izzo’s Spartans are mired in a four-game losing streak for the first time since 2007. Ron Harper Jr. was the key in Rutgers’ win at Northwestern on Sunday and continues to be the centerpiece on a team pushing toward its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1991.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have hired defensive line coach Todd Walsh, adding another veteran assistant to new coach Dan Campbell’s staff. Walsh was with the Jacksonville Jaguars the previous eight years. He also was an assistant in Seattle and Tampa Bay during his 15-year coaching career in the league. The Lions also hired assistant wide receivers coach Seth Ryan along with defensive assistants Kelvin Sheppard and Brian Duker. Detroit is retooling mode under Campbell and first-year general manager Brad Holmes. The team plans to trade quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams next month for quarterback Jared Goff and draft picks.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) — Greg Lee posted 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Western Michigan to a 76-70 win over Bowling Green, snapping the Broncos’ seven-game losing streak. Justin Turner led the Falcons with 25 points and six rebounds.
