GLADWIN, Mich. (AP) — Tips from suspicious anglers helped Michigan officers bust a scofflaw who illegally took more than 1,400 panfish in Gladwin County. The state Department of Natural Resources says two conservation officers confronted a man who had frequented Lake Lancer. After initially insisting he was within the daily catch limit of 25, he allowed a search of freezers at his house, where officers found 70 bags of filleted panfish. They were confiscated and the man was ticketed.
DETROIT (AP) — A bulldozer was used to break into a Detroit liquor store. Police tell WDIV-TV that someone fired up the heavy machinery and smashed the front wall of the JR Party Store Sunday morning.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — Police arrested two people and shut down a race Saturday billed as the “Margarita Madness 5K.” Grand Rapids Police Sgt. Dan Adams tells WOOD-TV that officers called a halt to the event after learning alcohol was being illegally served. Adams says that state regulators denied event organizers’ request for a liquor license. Margarita Madness 5K is advertised as a race in which participants receive a margarita at the finish line.
ISHPEMING, Mich. (AP) — An arsonist has severely hampered Santa’s toy production this fall. Ishpeming Police on Saturday asked for the public’s help in solving the overnight arson and property damage case involving the Santa’s Workshop building used at Christmastime. Police said officers were dispatched to the site where the building is stored to find the structure destroyed. A city-owned pickup parked in the area was also damaged.
