NEW YORK (AP) — International Flavors and Fragrances is merging with DuPont’s Nutrition and Biosciences unit in a $26.2 billion deal that would form a new company. The deal announced Sunday would give DuPont shareholders 55.4% of the new company’s shares, while IFF shareholders will get 44.6%. When the deal closes, DuPont will get a $7.3 billion cash payment, the companies said in a statement. The deal was unanimously approved by the boards of both companies.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A razor-thin legislative vote on tax breaks for a Grand Rapids-area data center could portend problems for other companies or industries hoping to secure economic incentives in Michigan. A divided state House this past week passed legislation that would give additional tax exemptions to Switch. The company opened a mega-campus of computer servers in 2017. The Senate may vote when it returns next year. The dispute comes as lawmakers declined to extend Michigan’s “Good Jobs” tax incentives for large-scale business expansions. Lawmakers also left the Pure Michigan tourism campaign unfunded amid a budget impasse.

DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say a man shot and killed by Detroit police officers on Saturday was a suspect in the killings of two women earlier in the week. Officer Vanessa Burt, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department, tells The Detroit News that officers confronted the man on Saturday afternoon on the city’s east side. Burt says Redford Township police considered the man a suspect in the shooting deaths of an 18-old-woman and a 49-year-old woman on Friday evening. Burt said the man began firing at officers, who fired back. The man’s name has not been released.
