ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) — The wife of a Michigan soldier who was fatally shot while on leave for the holidays has been charged in his death. Berrien County prosecutor Mike Sepic says Kemia Hassel will appear in court Monday. He declined to discuss the specific charges until the arraignment. Army Sgt. Tyrone Hassel III was killed on New Year’s Eve. The 23-year-old was a native of the Benton Harbor area in southwestern Michigan.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Investigations conducted by Michigan State University and the University of Michigan found that a political science professor sexually harassed graduate students. The Lansing State Journal reports that Michigan State hired a consulting firm last year to investigate allegations against William Jacoby. One former student alleges Jacoby asked for sexual favors in return for academic guidance on her research. Jacoby has denied the allegations.

DETROIT (AP) — The Hyundai Genesis G70, Hyundai Kona and the Ram pickup have received North American car, sport utility and truck of the year awards. The awards were announced Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Last year’s winners were the Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and the Volvo XC60.

DETROIT (AP) — The University of Detroit Mercy says it’s reached its $100 million fundraising goal a year ahead of schedule. The school’s President Antoine M. Garibaldi announced Monday that “momentum and enthusiasm” for the effort helped “The Campaign for University of Detroit Mercy” succeed. The fundraising effort still will continue through the end of the year. The school says additional donations could help support student scholarships; facility renovations and expansions; athletics; and special projects.
