GRAYLING, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking input on a plan to update military training airspace around an aerial gunnery range in northern Michigan that could change noise levels in surrounding communities. The proposal would change and create new military operating areas in the Alpena Special Use Airspace Complex. The complex is the military’s largest training zone east of the Mississippi River and includes the Grayling Aerial Gunnery Range.

ST. JOSEPH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police in southern Michigan have arrested two suspects in the New Year’s Eve slaying of a soldier who was fatally shot while on leave. The St. Joseph Township Police Department said Saturday the suspects were arrested in 23-year-old Army Sgt. Tyrone Hassel III’s killing after authorities received a tip. Police said no additional information, including the suspects’ names, will be released until they are arraigned. Berrien County’s prosecutor will release more information Monday.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan agency has issued a recall notice for several medical marijuana products that officials say failed laboratory testing. The products were sold Dec. 27-30 at HG Lansing on East Oakland Avenue in the city of Lansing. The state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs says the recall targets particular batches of Citrix, Gelato, Green Crack and Oreoz. They failed tests for contaminants such as E. coli, salmonella and chemical residues.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A public meeting on groundwater contamination in a western Michigan community has been postponed because of the partial federal government shutdown. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality had scheduled the gathering for Jan. 23 at Rockford High School. It will be rescheduled when the shutdown ends. The agencies are investigating toxic chemical pollution in Kent County from the former Wolverine Worldwide tannery and a waste dump.
