MAPLE CITY – With three consecutive postseason appearances to its credit, Glen Lake begins 2018 with a young but talented roster.
The defending champions of the Northern Michigan Football League Leaders division return only five seniors but have a large group of juniors and sophomores stepping up to the plate.
“We’re trying to get to 1-0,” Glen Lake coach Jerry Angers said. “Week 1 is the biggest thing. We want to get through practice, you know, the two-a-days sessions. If we can get to 1-0 it will be a success and we’ll talk about Week 2.”

The Lakers won their final five games a year ago to reach the playoffs and upset previously-undefeated Boyne City in a pre-district before falling to Traverse City St. Francis in a Division 6 district final.
“We’re going to be young, but I think we’re going to surprise some people, so we’re strong for our age, so I don’t think it’s really something to look past,” Glen Lake senior Drew Peterson said.
Glen Lake opens its season at home against New Lothrop on Thursday, Aug. 23. The Lakers also have non-conference games against Traverse City St. Francis, Gladstone, Kingsley and Grayling.
