ISLE ROYALE-MOOSE

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. _ Moose are thriving at Isle Royale National Park. A Michigan Technological University report released Tuesday estimates there are 2,060 moose at the wilderness park in Lake Superior. That’s the highest number since 1995, when the population exceeded 2,400. One reason for the boom is the near-disappearance of the wolves that prey on them, although officials began taking more wolves to the park last fall and there are now 15. The moose surge is damaging many of the trees on which they feed. By John Flesher. SENT: 500 words. Photos planned.
