Archdiocese: Abuse claim against now-dead priest credible

DETROIT (AP) — The Archdiocese of Detroit says an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor by a now-deceased priest who served throughout the Detroit area is credible.

The archdiocese said Sunday in a release that the complaint against Monsignor Thaddeus Ozog was brought to a review board and shared with prosecutors.

Ozog died in 1994. The archdiocese says he was ordained in 1956 and served as pastor or associate pastor at parishes in Detroit, Birmingham, Wayne, Waterford, Flat Rock and Hamtramck.

Ozog also served from 1959 to 1975 as an instructor, registrar, dean and rector at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit.

It was not clear Sunday if the allegation against Ozog came about as part of documents turned over by Roman Catholic dioceses across Michigan in a state investigation of sexual abuse by priests.
