AP-NORC Poll: Democrats most excited by experience in office

WASHINGTON (AP) — Most Democratic registered voters are looking for a 2020 presidential candidate who has experience in elected office.

An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll finds that a whopping 73% of them cited experience as a quality that would make them more excited about supporting a presidential candidate. The poll shows that Democrats give a collective shrug to gender, race and age as factors they’re considering when supporting a candidate.

One Democratic voter, 50-year-old Benji Grajeda, of Santa Ana, California, said he was once excited at the idea that Hillary Clinton could become the first female president. Now he just wants stability.

He said he never thought about the importance of a candidate with experience in elected office until voters chose Donald Trump.
