LONG BEACH, Ind. — The U.S. Supreme Court won’t decide until next year whether to consider arguments from residents of a Indiana community over ownership of the Lake Michigan community’s shoreline. The court is giving the state attorney general’s office an extra two months for a response. Long Beach is the hometown of Chief Justice John Roberts. SENT: 130 words.


— GAS PIPELINES: A new high-pressure natural gas pipeline crossing northern Ohio into Michigan has been completed, but work to finish restoring the landscape disturbed by the construction along some of the 255-mile (410-kilometer) route will wait until after winter.

— GENERAL MOTORS-BRAKE INVESTIGATION: The U.S. government is investigating more than 100 complaints of poor brake performance on 2.7 million General Motors big pickups and SUVs.

— ROAD CONDITIONS: The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments has awarded $60,000 in state funding to more than a dozen communities to support assessments of road conditions.

EAST LANSING, Mich. — As a senior at Michigan State, Khari Willis has certainly experienced college football’s ups and downs. His freshman season, the Spartans won the Big Ten and went to the College Football Playoff. Then the team collapsed to a 3-9 record the following year. Michigan State bounced back to win 10 games in 2017, but this season has been another disappointment — the Spartans are barely bowl eligible as they enter their regular-season finale.
