2 firefighters hurt rescuing 3 people from burning house

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say two firefighters were hurt rescuing three people trapped on the second floor of a burning house in western Michigan.

Muskegon Assistant Fire Chief Gordon Cole said firefighters found three residents hanging from two upstairs windows when they arrived on the scene early Friday.

Public Safety Director Jeffrey Lewis says one firefighter was on a ladder when one of the residents fell onto him and both tumbled 15 feet to the ground. He says the other firefighter received a severe cut to his hand from breaking out a window. Both firefighters were released after treatment at a hospital.

Lewis says the three residents are in stable condition being treated for smoke inhalation.

Cole says flames were coming out of windows of the home when firefighters arrived.
