Allison Peters joined Northern Michigan’s News Leader in March 2017 as the Creative Coordinator & Copywriter for our award-winning creative division, Mane Content, where she writes, schedules, sometimes voices, occasionally acts in, and helps produce commercials and videos for television, websites, events, and social media.

Allison also writes the weekly lifestyle column Experiencing Northern Michigan for 9&10 News and makes appearances on the four sharing her experiences with the NoMi community.

Proud to be part of the Cadillac Chamber Leadership Class of 2018-2019, Allison is passionate about connecting, engaging with, and supporting people in Northern Michigan, especially through creativity, education, and leadership. She serves as the Cadillac Leadership Co-Chair and as the Programming Committee Chair for Cadillac’s local art center, Up North Arts.

She also blogs for the Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau, teaches poetry and writing classes for kids and adults (in collaboration with the National Writers Series, Northwestern Michigan College, Earthwork Farm, etc.), and interviews published authors for the Michigan Quarterly Review. Her own poetry has been published in The Collagist, Dunes Review, Mixed Fruit, and elsewhere.

Allison is the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize and has been awarded scholarships to the Bear River Writers’ Conference as well as artist residencies with the Grin City Collective and Crosshatch Center for Art & Ecology. She earned an honors BA in English and creative writing with a minor in film from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2011 and worked for Hagerty, the Dennos, the Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market, the University of Michigan Press, and Michigan Publishing before coming to 9&10 News.

With California girl roots and a Northern Michigander heart, Allison has lived all over the Great Lakes State, from Traverse City to Ann Arbor and Marquette to Cadillac.
