Construction Crews Take Advantage of Recent Warm Weather

The superintendent of Cadillac Area Public Schools, Jennifer Brown, said the district is in the last phase of a three phase overhaul.  CAPS is used to building in all types of weather but when they have a period of nicer weather, the district will take it.

“So the warm weather allows it to move faster. You don’t have to do temporary heating conditions, things like that. So we are grateful for Mother Nature this year as we’re able to continue our progress,” Brown said.

Far different from the holiday storms that brought lots of cold and snow. Brown said the inclement weather happened at the best possible time during the holidays when things are slow anyway.

“I think the timing of the storm really worked in our favor as well. So we didn’t we weren’t significantly behind. But the warm weather allows us actually game in our schedule,” said Brown.

Eric Vollmar is project manager with Greenwald & B C Incorporated. Vollmar said they build all year round. He said the warmer weather has been great for the most part.

“The guys don’t have to layer up as much, our materials aren’t freezing, haven’t had to put in any temporary heating yet,” said Vollmar.

He went on to say that the warmer weather brings its own challenges including soft ground, unlevel scaffolding, and dealing with wet rain instead of snow.

But no matter the weather, the work will continue.

“We always get a winter is just a matter of when it will come in and when it will stay. So I’m sure, you know, January will bring another Michigan winter and we’ll be, you know, enjoying the outdoor snow and things like that in this community,” said Brown.
