Thousands of people came out to ring in the new year in Traverse City over the weekend, and they helped raise thousands of dollars for charity.
The Cherry-T Ball Drop is the way they celebrate on New Year’s Eve in Traverse City, but it’s also a fundraiser.
With a giant cherry lowered over downtown, people make their way that way to count down to midnight.
Donations from this year’s Cherry-T were split between food rescue and the Northwest Michigan Food Coalition.
The National Cherry Festival organizes the event, and Goodwill’s Food Rescue says they’re estimating $15,000 in donations were collected this year.
