Red Flags to Pay Attention to When Looking to Buy a New Puppy

If you’re looking to add a furry friend to your family this holiday season, make sure you don’t fall victim to a scam.

Puppy scams are when someone advertises puppies for sale, but they don’t even exist.

The Better Business Bureau warns to watch out for red flags. Websites advertising animals, especially puppies, are a red flag.

They also say to look out for deals to good to be true.

“The best rule of thumb that we have is if you can’t hold the dog, pet the dog, see the dog in person, don’t buy the dog. Find a local shelter, a local breeder, someplace where you can physically see the dog before you give any money,” Troy Baker, Vice President of Community Relations with the Better Business Bureau, said.

Another red flag to watch out for is if the seller asks for more money after the initial transaction.
