Traverse City District Library Raising Money for Outdoor Community Space

Traverse City’s first library is rallying funding the for “Library Lifelong Learning Lawn Project.”

The Traverse City District Library recognized a desire from the public for an outdoor community space and was approved for a matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. If the crowdfunding goal is matched, the library will add multiple additions to the front lawn of the library.

These include a rain garden, a sensory garden, benches and a front sign for the library.

“We’re hoping to raise up to $25,000, and then the MDC will match that. And as of yesterday, we are a little over halfway. So we’re hoping the community supports us and we make it to 25,000 and then have a place where we can all celebrate together,” Michele Howard, the library director, said.

The deadline to donate is Dec. 31, and you can donate by clicking .
