After Tuesday’s planning commission, Traverse City is one step closer to a new senior center.

The new center is expected to cost around $10 million with the state expected to pay around $7 million.

The new center will replace the old one and be nearly three times the size, over 17,000 square feet. It will be positioned to allow better access to the beach and will include renovated tennis and shuffleboard courts.

Developers say they’ll end up planting more trees than removing and hope to add more green-space and walking paths.

The project will now go in front of the city commission for approval. If it’s approved developers plan to begin construction in August of 2023.
