Cold, wind and snow did not stop people from giving to a great cause Saturday.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office held its 23rd annual holiday food drive in Sault Ste. Marie.
Drop-off sites were at Walmart and at Pat’s Foods downtown.
Volunteers from the sheriff’s office and their families braved the cold to collect food, toys and money.
All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army in the Soo for the upcoming Christmas season.
The outpouring from the community never disappoints the sheriff.
“It really is just amazing,” said Sheriff Mike Bitnar. “There is so much need in our area, and the people just give. The people just give. It is wonderful to see.”
Any excess donations after Christmas will be stored at the Salvation Army for future use.
