Downtown Manistee Turns Back the Clock for a Christmas Celebration

Known as the Victorian Port City, Manistee is turning back the clock to the turn of the century this weekend as they celebrate Christmas.

Bring the entire family for a look into Christmas of the past as downtown Manistee transforms with its annual Victorian Sleigh Bell Parade and old Christmas Weekend.

This decades old tradition brings out Victorian attire, carolers, music and holiday activities for all ages all weekend long.

The main event includes an old fashioned parade. There will be no motorized vehicles, and instead everything will be horse drawn to keep in with the theme.

“It is four days of winter fun,” Sammie Lukaskiewicz, the executive director for the Manistee County Convention and Visitors Bureau, said. “And for many, it’s the start of the Christmas season for their families as well. They share it with their generation families. And certainly from the Festival of Trees to jingle jam to the jingle bell jog, there’s all sorts of activities now through Sunday.”

The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Afterwards, everyone is welcome to join in on lighting the 30-foot Christmas tree and watch fireworks.
