An event this weekend is aimed at bringing healing to survivors of suicide loss.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the suicide rate among veterans is one and a half times higher than the general population.  An average of 22 veterans commits suicide every day.  It’s a statistic organizations like Northern Michigan’s 22-2-None are working to bring down.

The Michigan chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will be holding International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day on Saturday, November 19 across the state, including two in our area.  The goal is to help those left behind find comfort and share stories of healing and hope.

One of those events will be in Rogers City this Saturday at the Presque Isle District Library from 9 a.m. to noon.  Another is being held Saturday at Glen Lake Community Schools in Maple City from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

All survivors of suicide loss are invited to come.
