Secretary Benson Celebrates Smooth, Record-Breaking Election

Despite false claims made otherwise, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said the state’s election went very smoothly. There were a few tabulator and registration issues, but all were resolved and handled with typical security protocols already in place.

Benson says the efficiency of the process was even more impressive as the state saw a record number of voters for a mid-term election and even more on the in-person side, than expected. The expectations were about a 50/50 split between absentee and in-person voting.Benson After Elex Vsv 11 9 2200 00 52 14still001

“It’s important to know when we had our high watermark of absentee voting, it was in the midst of a pandemic in 2020,” said Benson. “So we’re seeing perhaps, we’re moving towards a more normal ratio where just about half, or in this case this case about 1.8 million of the 4.3 million participants voted absentee. That may ebb and flow in the years ahead.”

Benson’s office released a video that walks Michiganders through the canvassing process and all the steps happening after Election Day. That video can be seen here.
