Man Killed in Side-By-Side Accident in Roscommon County

A Stoney Point, Ontario man was arrested Sunday after causing a deadly side-by-side accident due to drunk driving, according to the Roscommon County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were sent to Windywood Drive and Artesia Beach Road in Saint Helen where they found Richfield Township paramedics and fire personnel helping two people. After investigating, they determined that three people had been in the Can-Am side-by-side that rolled over.

One passenger, Floyd Meir, 66, from Saint Helen died due to his injuries from the accident, the sheriff’s office says. A second passenger, a 40-year-old male from Stoney Point, Ontario was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, William Robert Simard, a 44-year-old man from Stoney Point, Ontario was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death

According to the sheriff’s office, Simard has been arraigned on the charge of operating a vehicle causing death.

No additional information is being released at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
