House Fire in Big Rapids Kills One Person

One person has died due to a house fire in Big Rapids, according to the Big Rapids City Fire Department.

On Oct. 1 around 6:50 p.m. the firefighters from the Big Rapids City Fire Department were sent to a house fire on 190th Avenue. The person who called in the fire says the house was on fire and one person was trapped inside, according to the fire department.

After arriving, Big Rapids firefighters found a two-story house with substantial fire coming from the west side. They say the fire was also extending throughout the entire structure and self-ventilating through the roof.

Firefighters attempted to find the trapped victim multiple times before finding them in the room where the fire was originating from. According to the fire department, they were pronounced dead on the scene by Mecosta County EMS.

Big Rapids Fire Department is still investigating the fire.
