King Orchards in Central Lake was just named the No. 1 orchard in the state.

Jack King, who works at the orchard says, “It was such a big surprise. We’re really honored. I mean, just out of nowhere, all of a sudden they’re saying, ‘Hey, you are a real destination place for people to come pick apples,’ and we’re going to rank next to Uncle John’s and some of the big orchards here in northern Michigan. So we’re really excited about that.”

On top of apples, the farm also has raspberries, sunflowers and pumpkins, along with baked goods inside.

King’s Aunt Rose is baking fresh pies every day. He adds, “We’re making the small batch of cider every week. And of course, there’s hot donuts and all kinds of farm goodies. I even saw some caramel apples in there the other day, which I’m pretty excited about.”

National recognition for what many people in northern Michigan already knew.

One customer who’s been coming to the orchard for over 30 years commented, “I’m so happy to be here. Once I get here, I hate to leave.”
