Traverse City Art Centers Receives Grant from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council

ArtcenterMultiple northern Michigan art centers received grants from The Michigan Arts and Culture Council equaling a total of over $900,000.

These grants help art institutions expand a little bit more on their already established programs or create new ones for the community to enjoy. Many of these places have been applying and receiving this grant for years.

Deb Jackson, the Executive Director of Old Town Playhouse, says “at Old Town Playhouse, we are very committed to quality. Quality in every regard. The sets, the cost rooms for the murder on the Orient Express, which is about to open this week on every costume, was made from scratch with the pattern.”

She plans to use this grant to keep up the quality for the community.

Over at the Dennos Museum Center they hope to use the grant for their concert and in Downtown at the City Opera House, Executive Director, Diane Baribeau, is planning to put some of the grant money towards art education stating that “the other one is a take it from the top Broadway musical dance and theater camp. Every year where kids come in for five days and learn all about being a professional performer.”
