West Pier Apartments Place 2,977 Flags on Front Lawn for 9/11 Memorial

This weekend marks 21 years since the September 11 attacks.

For the past six years, West Pier Apartments in Sault Ste. Marie has remembered those who lost their lives by meticulously placing 2,977 flags in their front lawn.

Friday marks the seventh year volunteers took time out of their day to be a part of something special. Players from the LSSU women’s hockey team, men’s basketball team and the Soo Eagles hockey team all did their part in laying out the memorial.

“I love how it brings everyone together and the unity and the passion everybody shows during this time. It’s something so simple but it means so much to so many people,” Regan Ackroyd, a member of the LSSU women’s hockey team said.

The flags will be removed Monday, so make sure you drive by and check out this patriotic display before then.
