UPDATE (5:35 p.m.): Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole has confirmed that the suspect shot at a home near Bass Lake is who was wanted in Oceana County.
Deputies say LeBeau was wanted on a six-count felony for a home invasion and a kidnapping complaint from Michigan State Police, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
He also told witnesses that he knew deputies were after him, and he would “go down shooting.”
Deputies say they got a call about someone matching LeBeau’s description in the area of Oceana Drive and South Lakeshore Drive, and that’s when he took off. LeBeau was pursued by deputies, and was eventually shot near The Wishing Well in Pentwater.
Sheriff Cole says he’s glad his deputies are safe and got a dangerous man off of the streets.
“I’m just ever more grateful that our our men and women are safe,” said Cole. “And I’m I’m so proud of the deputy that by himself decided to chase an armed subject on foot into the woods and into a neighborhood facing unknown. I couldn’t be more prouder of of our response.”
Deputies say a non-officer issued weapon was recovered at the scene.
MSP is taking over the investigation now.
