Jamie Lipovsky is known as the head football coach for Harrison High School’s Varsity football team. He can now add another title: hero.

Lipovsky has seen high praise for his actions Tuesday night. That’s when he spotted his neighbor on the side of the road, who told him her baby wasn’t breathing.

“I kind of got delayed after football practice and kind of made me get home later than usual and I think that was kind of in the cards in a way,” Lipovsky said.

Lipovsky was heading home when he spotted his neighbor on the side of the road crouching over her one-year-old. He says he wasn’t sure if she was changing a diaper or if there was something wrong. So, he stopped to make sure everything was okay.

“When I got there you know the mother was very upset and said, ‘my babies not breathing. Help me.’ And so I jumped into action to do it,” Coach Lipovsky explained.

He says a dispatcher told him to give the baby a rescue breath, and after a couple of breaths, the baby began to respond.

Lipovsky’s story was shared on Facebook, and he’s been praised as a hero from the community, his students and his players.

“He’s a role model,” a group of players said. “My favorite thing about it is that he goes about it like it was nothing just kind of casually did it.”

Lipovsky says just knowing the little girl is alive is all the thanks he needs. However, he says it’s nice to see the community recognize someone doing a good deed.

He says he’s had a number of students and faculty thanking him for what he did Tuesday evening, but he says he was just at the right place at the right time.

“I’ve always been a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. And so the things that delayed me at the time was a little irritating. For whatever reason that lined up to where I was going to be right at that spot, right at the right time,” Lipovsky said.
