Michigan State Police and an off-duty firefighter rescued a 10-year-old Ossineke boy trapped in the water at Four Mile Dam in Alpena Township.
On Thursday, Aug. 11, troopers from the MSP Alpena Post were dispatched to Four Mile Dam around 5:40 p.m. for a report of a 10-year-old swimmer in distress.

Upon arriving on the scene, troopers saw the boy being held by the dam’s current and hanging onto the structure. Trooper Talbot retrieved a ResQ Disc and personal flotation device (PFD) and deployed the disc to the boy. An off-duty Wilson Township Firefighter, Christopher Kinsey, used the trooper’s PFD to swim to the boy and escorted him to shore.
The boy was assessed by paramedics and went home.
