Lyme Disease Cases on the Rise, What You Can Do to Stop It

Confirmed or probable Lyme Disease cases are on the rise in Michigan.

The state health department released their Lyme Disease report. It showed that in 2021 there were two times as many cases of Lyme than what was seen in 2020.

Lyme is transmitted by blacklegged tick’s in Michigan.

It can cause fever, headache, fatigue and a bulls-eye like rash. Health officials say that climate change is actually playing a factor in the rising cases.

“As there are changes to our environment, ticks are able to expand their territory so ticks that we didn’t used to see in those areas are becoming evident in those areas,” Dr. Jennifer Morse, District Health Department #10, said.

You can prevent the disease by trying to avoid being bitten by a tick. To do that, wear light colored clothing, use bug spray that contains 20 to 30% deet, clear high grass from your home and check your skin after going outside.
