Soo Locks Children’s Museum Gets $15,000 Donation

A children’s museum that has been in the making for several years now got another big donation to make that dream come true.

A group of people got the idea in 2016 to build the Soo Locks Children’s Museum in Sault Ste. Marie. They knew it would be expensive, $1.5 million to be exact. They secured a location a couple years ago, and now it’s all about fundraising and donations.

On Thursday, Central Savings Back presented a $15,000 check to the museum members. This brings the total raised for the museum to $150,000.

“The community has been supportive beyond what anyone of us could have expected. We have been getting donations, big donations, from our community members and our financial institutions and Central Savings is helping to put us on the map,” Raquel Fernandez-Earns, Soo Locks Children’s Museum, said.

The museum is expected to open up in late 2023 or early 2024 at its Portage Avenue location.
