Western Michigan Fair Preparing to Welcome the Public

The Western Michigan Fair in Ludington kicks off this week.

The fair has taken place every year in Ludington since 1936. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, they still put on an animal exhibit to keep their supportive community happy.

Fair board members have put a lot of time and effort into the preparation of the fair, but are excited to finally open up to the public.

“We are excited to see when the kids make it onto the grounds, we’re excited when the carnival arrives, we’re excited when we open,” says Sheri Howe, secretary of the Western Michigan Fair Association. “And when the community comes in and supports us. That honestly is the biggest excitement that we can get, is when we get the support from the community.”

Howe is also excited for the new events, rides, and activities that they have this year.

One new event coming to the grandstands is wedge-racing, where kids ages three to 10 will race each other in mini motorized cars.

Other free events include racing pigs and a father-and-son on stilts making balloon animals. New carnival rides include a rocking boat and the ‘Silver Jet’. To see a full list of events and the schedule,

Entrance to the fairgrounds costs $4 per person, but children under five-years-old are free.
