Richard Pierce Given Maximum Sentence for Killing His Wife in 1975
A Cheboygan County man who was found guilty of killing his wife in 1975 has been given the maximum sentence decades after committing the crime.
Richard Pierce, 86, was found guilty in April of first degree murder and disinterment of a body. Hi wife, Carol Pierce, was last seen in September 1975 and her remains were never found. Pierce moved to Cheboygan County shortly after she disappeared.
At the sentencing, the judge said he wanted to give pierce the most serious consequence possible.
“You will be given the most serious consequence in this state,” Judge David Webor, Door County Court, said. “I cannot take your life in this state, but I am empowered to permanently deprive you of your liberty and that’s exactly what I intend to do.”
Also at sentencing was Carol Pierce’s sister. Addressing the court, she called Pierce a heartless, cold, lying monster.
