The 1437th Engineer Company of the Michigan National Guard in Sault Ste. Marie were on the river today performing drills.

The National Guard finished up a two week training exercise in Minnesota with this same equipment and gear.

Today, they took over Mission Point boat launch to check it all over to make sure it’s ready to go if needed on a real mission where a temporary bridge is needed.

“Our mission is ‘we are day one ready’,” said 1st Lt. Hannah Reetz. “Maintenance is done periodically every month to a different piece of equipment.”

Within a month, the Guard will be replacing the current boats with new ones with new technology.
