Fire Crews Battle Fire at Luther Grocery, Hardware Store

The fire has been put out with crews leaving a little before 5 a.m., according to Luther Fire Department.

Luther Grocery and the hardware store have been destroyed, but Chief Donald Nixon from Luther Fire Department says they don’t see any damage to the post office next door other than smoke damage to Luther Lodge which is on the second level.

Chief Nixon says he does not know what caused the fire at this time, but it appears that the fire started at the grocery store before spreading to the hardware store. The Fire Marshall will be out Wednesday to do a full investigation.

Patches of flames keep appearing from the tar on the roof, and Chief Nixon says they are expected to keep appearing for the next couple of days unless they are able to get an excavator.

No one was injured in the fire according to Chief Nixon.
