Suspect Accused of Robbing Target Arrested After Possible Cardiac Episode

A Mancelona man is in custody after deputies say he robbed the Target store in Traverse City on Wednesday afternoon.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office says the 38-year-old man asked a cashier for change before telling them to give him all the money from the cash register. He then ran from the store and Target called the police. Investigators say the man didn’t have a weapon and didn’t imply that he had one.

A short time later, a woman on Rennie Street – less than a mile from the mall – called and said a suspicious man asked her for medical help. He thought he was having a heart attack. Sheriff’s Office Capt. Chris Clark says, “The dispatcher identified that this may be the same subject that had just robbed the Target store. Deputies responded to that location on Rennie Street where that male subject was at, and had taken him into custody.”

The man was taken to Munson for treatment and was identified as the suspect in the robbery. He remained in the hospital overnight and the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for possible charges.
