Corps of Engineers Awards $1.068 Billion of the New Lock at the Soo Phase 3 Contract
Over one billion dollars has been awarded to the New Lock at the Soo project – thanks to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Phase 1 is nearly complete and phase 2 is scheduled for completion in summer 2024.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the project’s first phase to deepen the upstream channel began in spring of 2020, and is substantially complete with punch-list items and final cleanup remaining.
The project’s second phase to rehabilitate the upstream approach walls began in spring of 2021.
The contract is with joint venture Kokosing Alberici Traylor, LLC, headquartered in Ohio, that will start construction of the third phase.
It includes the new lock chamber and rehabilitation of the downstream approach walls.
The remaining work is valued at nearly $804 million.
The third phase is the largest, and it’s expected to take seven years to complete.
