Drivers Noticing More Travelers This Holiday Weekend

With the start of the National Cherry Festival and the holiday weekend, a lot of people are headed up to northern Michigan.

AAA Michigan says more than 1.7 million Michiganders are expected to travel 50 miles or more this weekend. That’s a 10% increase from last year. John Nicholson was on his way up to northern Michigan from the Detroit area. He says people are ready to get back out there for vacation.

“I think people are ready for a change. Get out enjoy themselves with friends, family and just enjoy the weekend and the beautiful weather,” Nicholson states.

He says he’s noticed the extra travelers on the roads.

“We like to take this trip a couple times a year. It’s a good time, but obviously there’s a lot to look out for. A lot of campers, a lot of RVs and so-on-and-so-forth. And there’s a lot of flat tires and traffic backups. It’s worth it in the end,” Nicholson says.
