The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office says that the area has been cleared by the bomb squad and reopened to regular traffic and that the device has been transported to a secure location to be detonated.
The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to avoid the block around Newaygo City Hall until further notice after a suspicious item was found out of town and brought to the building.
On Monday afternoon, someone found a suspicious item outside of Newaygo, put it in a bucket and brought it to the city hall.
The city officer looked over the item and contacted the Sheriff’s Department along with the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad to handle the situation.
Newaygo Police are reminding people that if you see a suspicious item that you believe is dangerous, leave it be and call 911.
Newaygo City Hall and the local library are closed for the rest of the day and will re-open at their normal times Tuesday.
