Northern Michigan veterans are being treated to a free concert this weekend, but they need a little help to pull it off.

The free concert is a way to give back and say thank you to veterans for their service. The Saturday night event is at Turtle Creek Stadium near Traverse City.

The Grand Traverse County Veterans Affairs director says they’re getting help from a grant through Michigan Veterans Affairs to make it happen. But they need help getting the stage ready and setting the scene for the big night, no experience necessary.

GT County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Roof says, “You don’t have to have any experience putting a stage together. So if people show up Saturday 8 AM at turtle Creek Stadium and help out for two or three hours, all you’re going to be asked to do is carry things, push/pull… move lighting. Stuff like that is all we’re asking.”

Gates open at 5:00 pm and music starts at 6:00. There will also be a Coast Guard flyover during the show at approximately 7:30.  Roof says anyone who volunteers will get into the show for free, and they’ll also need help tearing down after the show.

Roof also wants to remind vets about the Northern Michigan Veterans Expo on Friday. It will be held at the Grand Traverse Civic Center from 9 AM until 2 PM. He says over 60 vendors focused on veteran’s resources and benefits will be there.
