Construction Begins on I-75 in Mackinaw City

Construction is beginning on I-75 in Mackinaw City and several detours and reroutes of traffic are being put in place due to the condition of the southbound US-23 overpass.

Starting Tuesday, I-75 in Mackinaw City will be closed to traffic while crews start work on the southbound US-23 Bridge. Several detours will be posted, starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday at 6 a.m.

This is part of a $12.3 million dollar project by MDOT.

“For I-75 traffic, over those two days of this detour, it is going to probably delay them by a few minutes,” James Lake, the Communications Representative of MDOT North Region said. “We did pick this period of the week, typically Tuesday through Thursday is a lower period of travel this time of year, but as we know, once we hit summer, the Mackinaw City area is pretty busy.”

MDOT hopes to have the entire project complete by mid-November.
