Big Rapids staple and hidden gem, , is closing it’s doors this Sunday, June 12.
Owner, Elaine Sanford, has been cooking up and serving breakfast and lunch with a smile for almost 17 years.
Sanford has built many relationships within her community, getting to know each and every customer. She says, “I know each individual. I may not know them by names, but I know what they eat. So if I’m cooking, and I see them come by, their breakfast is on the grill.”
Unfortunately, every good thing comes to an end…After years of meals, moments, and memories, Sanford isn’t sure what life will look like when she’s no longer behind the counter.
She admits, “I don’t know what I’m going to do. This is my life, and I don’t know how I’ll be without it.”
Working in an older building comes with its costs, and sadly, the repairs that the building needs are far too expensive to continue to keep the café open.
But even after the doors are closed– Elaine is far from a stranger to her longtime customers. With tears in her eyes, she says, “I’ll always be there if they need something, all they have to do is pick up a phone…I love them with all my heart. I will miss them, really bad. And I can’t say thank you enough.”
