TART Trails Kicks Off Smart Commute Week with Recycle-A-Bicycle Swap

On Saturday morning, a long line gathered outside the Old Town Parking Garage in Traverse City.

Every year after Memorial Day, people patiently wait to get their hands on some new bikes.

TART Trails hosted the return of their annual Recycle-A-Bicycle Bike Swap.

Hundreds of unused and outgrown bikes are sold and swapped every year.

This leads into the 28th Annual Smart Commute Week—a perfect time for families to try a new form of transportation.

“We just want to see people using a different form of transportation to get active and to protect the environment and try something new,” said TART Trails Special Events Coordinator Janna Goethel.

Grab-n-go breakfast opportunities and biking-related activities will take place at multiple locations throughout the week.
