Mecosta County Sheriff’s Deputies Investigating Homicide in Mecosta Township

UPDATE: Morley-Stanwood Community Schools Superintendent Roger Cole said they will be holding a vigil on Monday, May 31 at 7:00 at the high school, as one of their students was a victim of this shooting.

Mecosta County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the homicide of a woman and three children in Mecosta Township, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:30 p.m. Friday, deputies received a report of a man with a gun and shots being fired at a home in Austin Township. Deputies arrived at the scene to find a woman and three children under the age of ten dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

A man was also found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Grand Rapids hospital for his injuries.

According to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, there was and is no threat of an active shooter because of the incident.
