Hook and Hunting: Tips for Fishing this Summer

Now that the weather is starting to get nicer, it’s time to take advantage of the amazing resources northern Michigan has to offer.

Charter fishing can be a great way to spend the day with family or friends.

Captain Paul Schlafley has some tips if you are headed out on the water. Bring a cooler, pack a lunch, have some Dramamine on hand for sea sickness and consider chartering a larger boat for a smoother ride and for bigger groups.  But over all, he says you can’t go wrong with any of the options out of Manistee.

“It’s starting to pick up,” Schlafley says. “The signs are really good. There’s a lot of nice size fish right now, the fish are really healthy. Lot of bait fish in the lake and the king fishing is starting to look good right now. Water’s starting to warm up, it’s been real good out here out of Manistee.”

Captain Paul says we are on course to have a great summer of fishing.
